Simplifying the cloud journey for Powersim
Powersim Software has emerged as a game-changer in the energy industry landscape, offering a suite of business tools for forecasting and analysing complex dynamic challenges.
In 2022, Arribatec entered a partnership with Powersim Software with a mission to fully utilise the automation and flexibility benefits of the cloud.
The challenge
Their products, pForecast and Powersim Studio have gained recognition and trust from major oil, gas, and energy companies such as Equinor and Aker BP. To elevate their business further, Powersim Software was looking for a solution that allowed faster deployment, more flexibility, and the highest data security standard.
According to research by Uptime Institute, 70% of data incidents are caused by accidental human errors. Ensuring that the pForecast application can run smoothly and efficiently, minimising downtimes and disruptions, was one of the top priorities.
What we delivered
Arribatec took on the responsibility of setting up and managing the cloud platform in Microsoft Azure for hosting the pForecast application. This included automated code deployment, marking a pivotal moment in Powersim Software’s journey towards its cloud-native vision.
Arribatec continuously monitors and maintains the cloud infrastructure with a 24/7 SPOC support centre, overseeing all security and compliance aspects.
Powersim Software’s commitment to the highest standards of data security and regulatory compliance was met with the competence of Arribatec’s compliance team. Legal and compliance consultant Asbjørn Øi helped them implement a new GRC portal and ISMS, ensuring that data remains secure and compliant with industry standards.
The results
Automation is at the core of this approach, ensuring that efficiency is never compromised. One of the significant benefits of this collaboration was the automation of code deployments and streamlining the deployment processes, making them efficient and more reliable.
– This not only saved valuable time but also reduced the chances of human errors in deploying the complex pForecast application, says Alistair Pelly, Business Development Manager in Arribatec Cloud.
Currently hosted on virtual machines in Microsoft Azure, the cloud environment is configured using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform). Not only does it keep track of historical changes to the environment, but it also makes it easy and quick to establish in a new region.
A cloud-native transformation
Powersim Software has a long-term goal to transform pForecast into a true cloud-native application. The cloud team at Arribatec, with Tom Mikkelsen and Vidar Waagø in the lead, work closely with Powersim Software to make this vision a reality.
