Join us in this heartwarming tale as Arribatec’s Granada office embraces reforestation, planting 51 trees in the rocky terrain of Sierra Nevada. Meanwhile, in Norway, our colleagues create a bee-friendly haven on the rooftop, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to ESG values.
Reforestation volunteering & planting flowers for the bees
ESG (environmental, social and governance) isn’t just a buzzword for us at Arribatec; it’s a commitment to positively impact the environment and society. So, when the opportunity arose to partner with the local non-profit organisation Reforesta, dedicated to reforestation, we couldn’t resist getting our hands dirty. Literally.
Our journey took us to the breathtaking Sierra Nevada, a mere 10-minute drive from our Granada office.
Here, nestled among the rocky terrain of an old quarry, we embarked on a mission to bring life back to this beautiful corner of Spain.
In total, we donated 80 trees to the reforestation cause. While the terrain proved challenging, our team’s determination was unwavering. We managed to plant 51 trees, a small forest of hope amidst the rocks. Each tree is a promise of a greener future.
The day was filled with hard work, laughter, and a deep sense of accomplishment. We knew it might take years to see our baby trees and bushes flourish, but that didn’t deter us.
In fact, some of us created map pins of where the trees we planted with a plan to go back in a few years and nurturing them into maturity.
The bees need flowers & flowers need bees
Switching gears, our colleagues at the Sandnes office in Norway were also busy making a bee-friendly impact. Audun and Armin from PlanBi teamed up to create a haven for the bees on our roof terrace.
They planted boxes of vibrant, bee-friendly flowers, adding a touch of nature to our urban office space. 🌼🐝
This initiative brought joy not only to our dedicated team at Arribatec but also to the resident bees, who now have a colourful feast awaiting them on our rooftop. It’s a small gesture with an impact that aligns perfectly with our commitment to ESG values.
Silje Adolfsen, marketing coordinator at Arribatec says that esides oil and gas, Rogaland is known for its fertile soil and large and elongated lands, which are ideal for agriculture.
– In contrast to most of Norway, Rogaland is very flat, making our land uniquely fit for crops. As these crops are dependent on the endangered bees, we must do what we can to save them, she explains.
Seeing the bigger picture
The EU Commission has estimated that approximately 87.5% of all plant species in Europe depend on pollination by insects, and as much as one-third of the food we eat is directly or indirectly reliant on pollination.
Without bees, the availability and diversity of fresh produce would decline substantially, and human nutrition would likely suffer.
The bees’ work has been estimated to be worth NOK 1,300 billion – every year. It is safe to say that if this job were to be done manually by humans, it would be extremely expensive and, of course, demand a gigantic workforce.
A greener future depends on commitment
At Arribatec, we believe in fostering a greener and more sustainable future. Whether planting trees in the rocky terrain of Sierra Nevada or sowing the seeds of a bee-friendly paradise on our office rooftop in Sandes, we believe including our colleagues in the work will have the highest impact.
As we look ahead, we can’t help but feel excited about the future. These activities remind us that small actions today can lead to a greener, more vibrant world tomorrow.
We want to thank our teams for joining this heartwarming journey, and remember, every tree planted and every flower bloomed is a step towards a brighter, more sustainable future. 🌳🌻🌏
